One Room Challenge: Week 5

Alright, you guys, we are in the HOME STRETCH. There is only one more week left in the One Room Challenge, and we still have to (*cough cough* work magic) make this place look like home! If you’re new here (or you just need a little reminder), see this post for where we started and this post for our plans.

This week, we did a lot of the small things. We replaced all of our old, yellow outlets and light switches with new, bright white ones (tutorial on this coming to the blog after the One Room Challenge). We FINALLY replaced our smoke/carbon monoxide detector. We caulked some cracks and gaps, sanded down the wood-filler on the stairs, and touched up some paint. AND we put our pretty new rug and chairs in place in their new home.

It’s kind of crazy that we are actually about to wrap up this 6 week journey. All we have left to do is a few touch ups, clean, and top it with a bow (figuratively, obviously), and call it a day! Here’s what’s left on our to-do list:

  • Prime + paint dining & stairwell
  • Repair + touch-up trim
  • Remove plantation shutters + put up new window treatments
  • Paint stair treads + risers
  • Install stair skirt, treads & risers
  • Source rug + light fixtures + new chairs?
  • Install new light fixture in dining + stairwell (P.S. We decided to keep the old light fixture so we’re nixing this one)
  • Update light switches + covers + smoke detector
  • Caulk (added this because we are still not quite done…cheers to having less than a week left to knock it out!)
  • Decorate!

Until next time! And don’t forget to stop by the One Room Challenge blog to check out the other guest participants and their progress.
